Sandra leads the Intellectual Property & Technology plus practice and co-leads the Employment practice at Olajide Oyewole LLP (DLA Piper Africa, Nigeria).
Sandra works primarily in the media, sports, entertainment, and technology sectors advising clients on advertising, brand protection, media and broadcasting, data protection, digital technology, employment, film and tv, fintech, health, hospitality, intellectual property, and music matters. She has strong expertise in intellectual property rights particularly copyright, including its ownership, protection, enforcement, management, exploitation, valuation, and monetization. With data protection legislation and AI policies rapidly evolving and the emergence and growth of technology driven areas such as fintech, healthtech, biotech and edtech, Sandra is actively involved in helping businesses, from start-ups to global enterprises navigate the associated regulatory and compliance issues.
As a member of DLA Piper Africa working with global law firm DLA Piper, Sandra works closely with her colleagues across Africa, the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia and the United States in the media sports, entertainment and technology sectors. By virtue of her work, she is familiar with the copyright and other applicable legislation, policies and practices in these jurisdictions and has built up a network of experts across the globe.
Sandra is committed to the creation of structure within Nigeria’s creative and innovation-driven sectors which includes the strengthening of Nigeria’s intellectual property, data protection and AI, laws, bills, and policies. As part of her capacity building, this has led to 2 to 3 masterclasses each year in the area of intellectual property specifically targeted at the Nigerian MSME and educational sector. In the public sector, she also works closely with regulators advising on the ecosystems, commercial terms, business practices and impending bills and policies in her sectors of work. She has worked with the various ministries, departments and agencies in the creative and digital economies advising on enabling legislation, functions and powers and in some instances assisted in the resolution of ambiguities and uncertainties re duties and powers.
Sandra is regularly sought after to speak both in Nigeria and abroad, on copyright, data protection and other legal and commercial matters in the media, sports, entertainment, and technology sectors.
On the employment side, clients rely on Sandra for support in respect of a myriad of matters including labour laws and contracts, global mobility, occupational hazard, reputational damage, private investigations, employment restructuring and labour related disputes. As the great transformation continues, Sandra has begun to advise on ESG and AI as it relates to employment.
Sandra considers herself as a forever learner. She is certified in company direction. She holds a certificate in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) from The Boardroom Africa Course. By the end of 2024, she hopes to have completed courses in cyber risk governance. Sandra was listed in TechCabal’s first edition of top 50 women in tech. She is currently ranked in Band 2 in intellectual property Chambers Global for 2023.
Sandra sits on the advisory board of a handful of organisations primarily in the education and tech sectors. She is a pioneer organising member of one of the most sustainable music festivals in the world. Sandra conceived and project managed the publication of the book Through the Fire, a tool guide on bereavement. She has several articles written in respect of the media, sports, entertainment and tech sectors.
Sandra loves swimming, reading, watching documentaries and enjoying life. She is married with children.
