A Tope Tokan-Lawal (“Tope”) is a lawyer licensed in both Texas, USA (2012) and Nigeria (2014). She is a Partner in Osuntuyi & Tokan-Lawal Law (“OTL Law”), a firm she co-founded in January 2022. Ms Tokan-Lawal represents clients in arbitration and litigation matters, including copyright, trademark, family law, debt recovery, and breach of contract. She has secured injunctions at the Federal High Court on behalf of notable musicians for infringements on copyrights in their songs and instrumental compositions. 

Ms Tokan-Lawal obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA Hons.) degree in Management from the University of Texas in Arlington (UTA). She then attended Baylor University School of Law in Waco, Texas, where she obtained her Juris Doctor (JD) degree. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2012 and returned to Nigeria in 2013 after working as an immigration attorney in Houston. She attended the Nigerian Law School in Bwari-FCT and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2014, having graduated with second class upper honours and received the 3rd Best Student in Civil Litigation Course award. In 2021, she obtained her LL.M. degree, in Human Right and Law & Economic Development from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts (USA).

Ms Tokan-Lawal also possesses an exceptional commitment to pro bono and community service work and is a child rights advocate. She is the Chair of TOKAN Foundation for Children and Young People, a charity that provides educational and social wellness support for children. She also chairs the Child Rights and Juvenile Justice Center, a charity that provides pro bono legal service to underprivileged children.

Tope is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK.
